Google Base is Deleting Some Individual Sellers’ Feeds

UPDATE: I have not heard of any feeds being deleted since the end of September–I wonder if they thought better of deleting feeds until the December deadline they had mentioned…

Google Base is deleting individual seller feeds. That’s the pre-formatted letter I got from Google Base tech support, and now more sellers in the forums have said their feeds have been “retired”.

I am really disappointed–they’ve given marketplaces until December to comply with the new rule which went into effect September 3rd. Even though a marketplace is not submitting a feed yet, Google Base has already retired several sellers’ feeds on Etsy and 1000markets.

It seems pretty random–some sellers have had feeds deleted, some not. Some have been able to set up Google Base feeds for the first time while others have not.

Etsy admin have said they are working on it, but it looks like it will be a few weeks before our feeds are up.

I have responded to the Google tech support message explaining how I feel this is not a good move and that feeds shouldn’t be deleted until the venue is submitting its feed–especially considering the timing for upcoming holiday season–and how sellers don’t have control over when their market place starts submitting their items. I’m hoping they will reconsider. If you’d like to contact them too, here’s the Google Base contact form:

My feed was one of the ones that was deleted. Oddly enough, it wasn’t done until yesterday. I guess they are deleting in stages.

I think they are doing in stages, but I thought mine had been deleted but it hadn’t–see this most recent post:

My stores are still active; however, I have this message that the items need attributes e.g. clothing, home decor, etc. Since this is done in our Etsy tags, I am not sure what I would need to do for Google.

There’s nothing you can do about missing product types, and your items will still come up in searches. :) See FAQ 2 for more general Google Merchant info: http://www.gotogreatpanes.com/blog/2009/06/06/google-base-faq-2

My Google feed, which was posting fine, was “retired” last week by Google and all of my store items dissappeared from the Google product search. I do not have a marketplace store, I have a Miva store. I am unable to make any headway contacting anyone at Google. All I get back is a form email saying that Marketplace stores will have feeds automatically submitted.

Sorry–I know nothing about Miva stores. If you have your store hosted on your own site and your domain is the address they are pulling the feed from you should have been fine. Have you contacted Miva to see if they can help/if anyone else is having the same issues?

Posting now at the Miva forums. Did call tech support at Miva and they said it was a Google issue.

If all else fails, you can try creating a new Google Merchant Center account and setting up a new feed… Good luck!
