Temporary Google Base Issues: Fixes here!

Go To Great Panes, Kathryn Maloney ©2009

This week Etsy added USD to all our listings to make it clear to international buyers that our prices are in US Dollars. Unfortunately it’s been causing issues with the Let’s Ets data feeds.

If you are looking to update your data feed, you can do one of two things:

1. Switch to the Etsy RSS method which also allows you to use the scheduler to automatically update your shop from now on:

~ ~ ~ Switch to the Etsy RSS method ~ ~ ~

Here’s a tutorial–be sure to start from step 1 as some of the account settings need to be changed:

Etsy RSS and Google Base

2. Manually edit your Let’s Ets feed:

~ ~ ~ Let’s Ets: remove the “USD” ~ ~ ~
from your download

1. Download the feed to your computer.
That’s the file titled SHOPNAME.xml (of course, it has your shop’s name in the spot where it says “SHOPNAME”).

2. You should be able to open it with an HMTL editor or a plain text program like notepad or WordPad. Right-click on the file name and select “Open with” and pick a program.

3. Make sure the cursor is at the top of the page, then hold down the control button on your keyboard and click H.

4. When the pop up opens put USD in the “Find what” box, and leave the “Replace with” box empty. Click the “Replace All” button.

5. Save the file, and upload to Google Base as usual.

The Let’s Ets fix is a tip from Glasstastic.

This is the error message I keep getting on all four of my etsy shops

The domain of this URL doesn’t match the domain registered on the Settings page of this account.

I wanted to pause here..and take a moment to publicly thank you for your tireless help on addressing and fixing the Google Base issues us Etsy shops are/were having! I spent countless hours..wasted is more like it..trying to figure out what I was doing wrong with my XML upload from LetsEts..which I do faithfully..Funny how one tends to think they have created an error or sorts when things go wrong..even though they do the exact same thing..same method..same steps that they always have…
So..to you..again..great thanks for the resolution and for offering some new alternatives as well..you really do go to great panes!!

You seem to know alot about the technical side of internet marketing.
Do you know how to get etsy shop photo/listings onto google image search. Looks like etsy converts our titles to numbers. I don’t know if I am making myself clear. Also, on Google base, I followed your great tutorial- it was successful.
It says my items expire in July. Do I then repeat the entire process.
    Thanks, Will

How long after you do a manual upload does it take for your pieces to show up on Google Shopping?

  • . @pril | June 5, 2009 at 5:27 pm | Permalink

The uploaded data feed was successful and now it is not. Am I wasting my time with this? I need help. The error message I am getting now is this:

    We didn’t understand your delimiter.

Why are these things so hard?

  • . @pril | June 5, 2009 at 7:10 pm | Permalink

Okay, out of 9 items I only see 1 when I do a general search in the Google Shopping section, why is that?

@pril–I’ve answered your questions in the Etsy forums where you’ve also asked them. If anyone needs more help please join us there for the discussion:
